*Important Note
Some of the students are scrambling to get their AR Goal during these last three days of the semester. They've been told for weeks that they need to be reading, and I even shortened their goal to 1/3 of their actual goal for this first quarter. Every 9 weeks, I will take their AR Goal as a grade. I will also average all of their AR Tests together and take that as a grade. The theory behind that is that it should be a grade booster for everyone.
This time I am also counting the AR Test on The Black Cat as a grade. Unfortunately, this short story is only worth 1.0 point instead of the 6.0 points we thought it would be worth. I apologize for the confusion, but each student has known that they should've been reading this whole time, regardless. There are given time in class to read several days a week, and the library is open before school, after school, at lunch, and during classes when they have finished their work for the day, and their teachers allow them to go. Unfortunately, the quizzes aren't able to be accessed at home. If your child needs to take a test, and they have A Lunch, I will be happy to ensure that they get chosen to go to the library.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email me. I am happy to send suggestions about some good books for all your budding readers!
The quarter ends next week on Wednesday, but grades have to be turned in by noon on Wednesday, so I'll finish all my grading on Tuesday night and add what few grades I can on Wednesday morning if I have anyone turn anything in that morning.
FALL BREAK IS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY! WOOHOO!

FALLELUJAH!
Fall is my FAVORITE time of the year! We get to do some really fun projects and delve deeper into my fourth love in life - Literature (after my husband, son, and profession, of course)!
Unfortunately, the WORST THING EVER is about to happen: WE ARE RUNNING LOW ON CANDY AND PENCILS. If any student brings in a bag of individually wrapped candy, they will receive one Gotchya for every ten pieces. They will also receive one Gotchya for every five pencils they bring! No need for these to be fancy schmancy pencils. I just keep an emergency jar on the edge of my desk for anyone who happens to need one during class.
I'm looking forward to having fun with your precious adolescents this season! THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUOUS SUPPORT!
ALSO! HUGE SHOUT OUT TO LYZ METCALF FOR BRINGING IN A TON OF PLAIN, WHITE COPY PAPER, GLUE STICKS, AN AWESOME CARRIER, AND A DELICIOUS CUPCAKE! YOUR DONATIONS ARE MUCH APPRECIATED!

Just a quick update!
I am having some trouble getting students to put their names on their work, so I have decided that I will take 10% off of their final grade if they turn something in with no name on it. That grade might also be accompanied by a late grade, because I would not have gotten it entered into the grade book on time with the other assignments.
I will also now be turning missing assignments into zeros one week after they are flagged as missing. I also print grade reports out in class by student number, so they students can see their grades. They know they are to check the No Name folder periodically, as well.
This will ensure that we have the most up-to-date and accurate information regarding your child's grade and progress!
Thank you!
